Eurofoods’ employee James Davies has taken part and completed the London Marathon, raising a staggering £3000 for the charity Children With Cancer In The UK.
Shelim Hussain MBE congratulates James Davies on his mammoth effort.
On the 21st of April 2012, James arrived in London for the 26 mile marathon in which another 37000 people competed. Setting off just after 9.45am on a dry but cloudy morning James looked positive about his day. The IT manager of Food Wholesaler Eurofoods usually spends his day in the office from the comfort of his chair, overseeing and planning the IT facility at the Newport Company’s head quarters. James has been preparing for the London Marathon for quite some time; playing rugby on the weekends for Cardiff CIAC’s and taking part in the Cardiff and Llanelli Half marathons, as well as a hideously torturous training run through the hills and mountains of the Llanbedr to Blaenafon race. With over 400 miles of training in the bank, surely the London Marathon was a piece of cake!
Of course the first few miles were on the easier side but inevitably as time goes by and the legs start to ache, James just had to keep on pounding those streets of Greenwich, reminding himself that all the pain was for the Children with cancer UK charity. Another charity that solely relies on donations, with no government funding, the charity determine the causes, find cures and provide care for children with cancer.
They fund life-saving research into the causes, prevention and treatment of childhood leukaemia and other childhood cancers, and work to protect young lives.
Raising over £3000 for charity is a great achievement and Eurofoods, Masala Bazaar and CaterersDepot.com were very keen to take up sponsorship of the running shirt pictured above. The pledges from the three companies totalled over £700 and will be a welcome gift to the charity.
The amount of Money Eurofoods Group staff donated totalled just over £500 making the groups donation over £1200. James would also like to thank his other co-sponsors of the shirt: T.J.Phillips Metal Fabricator, Horizon Digital Media, Bluestone Holiday Village, FDSystems
Having set an almost record pace at the beginning, from mile 18 James got to know all about the legendary London Marathon’s ‘Wall’. Not a brick wall but a wall of physical and mental pain, and for some people a wall that cannot be defeated. With major cramps setting in the pace slowed down towards the 35 kilometre mark, but with only a few more miles left James would not be defeated. Using the crowd and other runners as support, along with the charity cause in his mind, he made it to the finish in an admirable time of 4:44:03!
Eurofoods would like to congratulate James for all his effort and of course for the amount raised for the charity. James would also like to give special thanks to all the staff at Eurofoods who donated to the cause. Also special thanks go to his training partner Matt Kempson, friends and family and of course fiancé Mel and Mum for all the support!
Eurofoods would like to express their condolences to the family and friends of Claire Squires who sadly died participating in the London Marathon.
It’s not too late to donate, even though the marathon has finished you can still go to the specially set up webpage http://www.justgiving.com/james-davies-2012please.

You may not have heard IT Manager James Davies’s and Warehouse Manager Matt Kempson’s cries of agony from where you were on the weekend, but the hills and paths of Llanbedr to Blaenafon surely did! In his phenomenal attempt of cracking the London Marathon for the first time, James accompanied by Matt, thought a 15 mile run come stagger up an almost vertical hill was quite a way of preparing. James sportingly adopted the sponsored T-Shirt that he shall be parading during the London Marathon featuring the sponsorship by Eurofoods, Masala Bazaar and CaterersDepot.com. After four hours of climbs, runs and walks, the pain and agony of such a ridiculous feat was realised, surely the London Marathon will be a lot easier than this!

James Davies is running the London Marathon on April 22nd April, if you would like to sponsor or donate you can call in to the Newport Office or got to http://www.justgiving.com/james-davies-2012 to make a donation. All donations will be going to the Children With Cancer In The UK charity, a very worthy cause I’m sure you’ll agree. Good Luck James!

There is some joy on the horizon for the Birmingham employment market, where up to thirty new jobs are being made available by the ethnic food and beverage provider – Masala Bazaar. The brand new Cash and Carry wholesale stores are planned for the Smethwick and Ward End districts of Birmingham, providing some much-needed help on the job seeking front. Masala Bazaar continue to stride forward in the UK’s food service supply chain, making these the eighth and ninth stores to open in little over seven years. The company who are part of the Eurofoods Group are a leading provider to wholesalers, restaurants and the general public, whose main focus is aimed at the ethnic and Indian food sector. The stores will be requiring managers, assistant managers, butchers and customer assistants. The new premises are currently under construction and renovation and aim to be open around June 2012, making it a true Indian summer! Masala Bazaar stores carry both food and beverage products which include the likes of many foods that are not commonly seen in the large supermarkets. With their essence on meat, fish and seafood, visiting a Masala Bazaar store is of much of an interest to the passerby as the returning customer. With an amazing array of food from around the world that is not likely so see elsewhere and huge fish that are farmed from their own fresh water lakes in Bangladesh, many could be forgiven for thinking they’re involved in a natural history programme on the BBC. Each store boasts its own in-house butcher that will be on hand to cut both fresh and frozen portions on demand. All Masala Bazaar meat is Halal slaughtered and where possible and practical most of the other food is inclined to be that way too. The store caters for all sectors of the food services industry, stocking other goods such as take away packaging, cleaning and hygiene products, kitchen-ware and other ordinary (European) food items. Venturing into Birmingham is a fantastic step for the company’s ambitions, who aim to have a Masala Bazaar in every major town and city over the next few years. What makes Masala Bazaar different from many other cash and carry stores is the fact that the general public are allowed to buy discounted food goods from the store without being a business owner or needing to sign up before spending. With an ever-increasing demand for Asian and Indian foods and our growing ethnic communities, Masala Bazaar is not only serving a purpose for its customers, but with these jobs, a service to its community too. More details will become available closer to the time of opening but Masala Bazaar Group Manager, Shahab Ali, is looking to get the recruitment process underway immediately. Applications for the positions and further application details can be viewed on the www.masalabazaar.co.uk website’s Careers section.

In the ever changing and evolving world of Masala Bazaar, they are pleased to announce the launch of their new website. Where the old website was nothing more than a splash page of information, the new site offers a whole bundle of new material and interesting insights. The Ethnic and Asian food specialists, with stores dotted around the country, also hope that this is just a first step to a planned full-scale shopping on-line facility. Users who have struggled before to find news of the company will be delighted to find a News and Events section dedicated to just that. The newsletter subscription is also a new feature with monthly newsletters planned for the forthcoming months. As food prices vary from week to week, customers can be informed of the very latest produce and packaging offers from the store. The site is very user-friendly and although primarily based at the business to business food service industry, the general public can view the range of products which are available for them to purchase in store. This is what Masala Bazaar stores offer that is different to usual wholesalers. Members of the public are fully welcomed into the stores, as most are strategically placed for maximum visitor capture. You may see one, just off your local high street or in an industrial shopping complex. A neat download section gives access to catalogues, offers and employment documents. On that note the site also keeps users informed of current vacancies. With the planned expansion of the Masala Bazaar store, they are expecting the vacancy pages to be one of the biggest hit pages of the entire site. In an age of economic downturn and food prices soaring, Masala Bazaar tries to keep a competitive edge on their rivals. Much of the produce is sourced from their very own brands such as Crown Farms, Cha Cha Chef and Al Rohim but they also hold many more names such as Pataks, Fairy and Elephant. Part of the Euro Foods Group, the chain store are currently going from strength to strength, seeing more and more visitors to their stores month on month. The rise in demand for Indian and Asian cooking ingredients has never been higher and hopefully the website will direct restaurant owners, hoteliers and wholesale business owners to find the right products at the right price at the right place. A neat map on the Contact Us page will pinpoint visitors to the exact location of the stores, also showing opening hours and contact details. As Masala Bazaar expands so to will this new website, so keep watching!

In addition we have on site vehicle maintenance garage – so you won’t hear the old excuse that one of our trucks has broken down! We treat every customer the same, no matter how large or how small their business size, so you can always be assured of a first class service – with a smile. In short when considering a company to provide a food service, maybe these questions will help:
1) Can they supply a restaurant with everything they need?
2) Have they a good network of vehicles?
3) Do they have quality foods?
4) Have they a wide choice of food and drink?
5) Are they able to deliver next day?
6) Are their vehicles refrigerated?
7) Do they have various payment options
8) Will they create new and exciting products?
9) Is ordering easy and uncomplicated?
10) Are they competitive in their pricing?
If the answer to all these is yes – then you’re probably using Eurofoods. If you’re not then contact us and see how we can provide and help you too.
